Pet Peeve #adfs09: Spitting in Public
Honestly. I don't know what it is that makes it so... vile, rude, and frankly, uncivilized. Uncouth, if you will.
Was walking from car to office this morning and caught a rather nice looking man letting one loose as he walked up the street. I thought to myself... why? There is a difference when people are sick and need to relieve themselves of the phlegm in their throat, but I would think that most people usually cough into a napkin or go to the bathroom to let it out (and observe the contents afterwards... you know...) - or in a worse-case scenario, try to spit it out as discreetly as possible.
But seriously, other than that - what gives? What brain function tells one that it's okay, when there's extra saliva in one's mouth, to just let it out on the street? To make a personal contest out of how far it can fly? To find it acceptable to make that horrrrrrrrkghing noise in public? Are these the same people who urinate in public? Is swallowing vs. spitting like a fight-or-flight reflex?
In other news, I had two brunches this weekend and spent a total of 8 hours in malls. It was quite devastating after realizing it, and also once leaving the mall(s) noticing the absolute gorgeous weather outside where I could have been on a mountain slope somewhere swooshing down the mountain on my in-dire-need-of-a-wax snowboard. Oh well, less than 2 weeks and I'll be kicking it up in Big White! Le sigh. Oh not to mention leaving for DR on Thursday... hehe.
